For the next thirty days we will be promoting the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal (ICJB) White House ‘We The People’ petition. We hope that all of our friends and supporters will get behind the campaign and help us spread it.
Amongst other things, we will be running a Facebook campaign using some of Giles Clarke’s award-winning photographs ‘Bhopal Toxic Trespass’. The photos highlight life in various communities near to the abandoned Union Carbide pesticide factory. Many of them show third generation sufferers of the effects of Union carbide’s poisons. The children were born sick or disabled and, in each case, their parents were either poisoned by the gas of the 1984 disaster; or have been using the water contaminated by chemicals abandoned by Union Carbide; or in some cases both.
Union Carbide and its current owner Dow Chemical continue to ignore the Bhopal courts where Carbide is still wanted on criminal charges fro its role in the 1984 disaster. Dow has now been served notice, on four occasions, to attend court and explain why it does not produce Carbide. The ICJB petition asks the US Department of Justice to ensure that the latest court notice is correctly delivered to Dow. You can find the petition HERE
