We are very pleased to report that Hannah and Dominque have completed their fundraising walk and raised over £500. Huge congratulations to these wonderful and committed ladies, who under very different circumstances completed the walk and raised over their £500 target. We can’t thank you enough!
In January this mother and daughter team contacted our office to say they had made a plan to walk Hadrian’s wall, 84 miles (135 km) along the Hadrian’s Wall trail from Newcastle to Bowness-on-Solway, in April, to raise money for the BMA. We were thrilled and worked with them to create a good timeline to start fundraising, set up a just giving page and look at how to raise awareness through social media. Hannah and Dominique did a brilliant job putting this all together and planning the logistics of the walk itself.
Sadly the unprecedented times we now find ourselves in meant they could not carry out their walk as hoped. The spread of Covid-19 and the government’s measures put in place to mitigate this meant that Hannah and Dominque could no longer travel from their home to carry out the walk and all the places they had planned to stay along the walk were now closed.
Incredibly this didn’t stop our determined pair, they very quickly made a new plan, The Almost Hadrian’s Wall Walk. Hannah and Dominque did walk 84 miles, but all in their local area as part of their government permitted daily exercise. In just 10 days they covered the distance, going for daily walks in their local area, keeping to safe social distancing rules and not travelling, these lucky ladies live in the countryside with fields on their doorstep!
