What the spirit of Bhopal teaches us about surviving despair, Tim Edwards, TEDxWarwick
Tim sheds light on the forgotten story of the Bhopal Gas disaster, one of the worst industrial tragedies in the modern era. As head of the Bhopal Medical Appeal, he talks about his journey in founding an organization aimed at caring for those still enduring horrific illnesses from a man-made chemical disaster.
Tim was inspired by the strength of the survivors after visiting the city 15 years later, and has been advocating on behalf of Bhopal ever since, advising on the social, legal, environmental and medical complexities of Union Carbide's disaster. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Bhopal, Toxic Trespass
The children shown in this video are second and third generation sufferers of the effects of Union Carbide’s toxic chemicals. Some of them have a parent, or grandparent, poisoned in the 1984 gas tragedy; whilst the parents of others have been exposed to the contaminated water now found in these areas thanks to the toxic waste abandoned in and around the factory. Shockingly, some of the children’s parents were gassed in 1984 and, with an added, cruel twist, have been slowly poisoned by the water ever since.
