Project Censored: Media Democracy in Action, a website teaching students and the public about the role of a free press in a free society – and to tell the News That Didn’t Make the News and Why.
The website has been compiling a top 25 of the most censored stories since 1976 (all available here), and this year, ‘Bhopal Water Still Toxic Twenty-five Years After Deadly Gas Leak’ ranked 15 out of the top 25 stories of 2011, pipped by number 11, ‘The H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic: Manipulating Data to Enrich Drug Companies’. Different shenanigans, the usual suspects… pharmaceutical companies have literally been making a killing out of Bhopal survivors for 26 years now. Indiscriminate prescribing of ineffective, inappropriate and harmful drugs continues by doctors within the government-run medical institutions.
