On Sunday January 26th the staff and volunteers at the Chingari Children’s Clinic in Bhopal celebrated India Republic Day with the children at the centre.
Republic Day marks the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, turning the nation into a newly-formed Republic. Traditionally the government organises the Delhi Republic Day Parade in the capital, and on this occasion the children of Chingari took part in a small parade of their own. Dressed in sashes of the Indian flag, the children paraded around the centre, before hoisting the flag to fly over the clinic.
After the parade several of the children made speeches, which were followed by games and activities including singing and dancing. The children also participated in making their own flags and drawing pictures. Among them was Suraj, the subject of our recent Radio 4 Appeal who took his first steps at Chingari just last year. He can be seen (left) drawing a picture of the Indian flag with a big smile on his face.
As always it is wonderful to see all of the staff and children at Chingari celebrating and socialising together. A big thank you goes out to all the staff for organising this event.
