From May 15-17 the Bhopal Medical Appeal was present at the Om Yoga Show in Manchester. For 3 days, the show brought together Yoga teachers, practitioners and enthusiasts from all over the North of England and elsewhere. Attendees had the opportunity to do anything from sampling 6 kinds of coconut water, to participating in free yoga and meditation classes.
The Bhopal Medical Appeal had a booth right in the middle of all the action. Our aim was to garner the interest of Yoga instructors and communities from all over the country, encouraging them to learn more about the ways in which Yoga Therapy has been an effective tool for the treatment of multiple health issues experienced by patients at The Sambhavna Trust Clinic in Bhopal.
For several years, Yoga Therapy has been used at Sambhavna to help treat patients suffering from respiratory and musculoskeletal health problems as well as severe gynaecological complications for women exposed to toxic gas in 1984 and more recently, the on-going water contamination. In addition to raising awareness about the profound healing effects of Yoga Therapy at Sambhavna, we promoted our BMA Yoga Fundraising Initiative, which involves Yoga communities coming together to organise a fundraising event in dedication of survivors in Bhopal, and intending to raise money to help support Yoga Therapy at the Clinic.
We made several promising connections, at the Om Yoga Show, that we hope will result in future events being undertaken throughout the country to help promote the impacts of innovative integrative healthcare in Bhopal, and to raise funds to ensure that this critical work can continue. We’d also be delighted to hear from any further yoga practitioners that might wish to help so please get in touch.
