On Sunday 9th August, an event in Bhopal connects the atomic bombing of Japan with the 1984 Bhopal Disaster. The organisers stated aim for this event in Bhopal is that it shall be in commemoration of, and in solidarity with, both Hiroshima and Nagasaki whilst, most importantly, intending to raise awareness and help prevent future disasters:
“6-9th August 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima-Nagasaki atomic bombings in Japan. This year is also the 30th anniversary of the Union Carbide accident in Bhopal, infamous as the ‘Chemical Hiroshima’ of India. We believe that the cost of forgetting the stories of Bhopal and Hiroshima, Fukushima and Chernobyl, is huge. In commemoration, solidarity and to be ruling out future disasters, we take the opportunity to invite you the event “Remember Hiroshima -Remember Bhopal”
“The event will unfold into three parts, a film screening, a talk by Shri Kumar Sundaram, an eminent senior researcher from the Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace (CNDP) followed by a discussion with the audience.
“Theme of the talk: “Machinations of the military industrial complex in India and abroad, and corporates link to war against people and nature”
With an exhibition of exclusive photographs from the Hiroshima-Nagasaki blasts at the venue.
Sunday, 9th August, 2015, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm Venue: Regional Science Centre, Shamla Hills, Bhopal.
