As the 36th anniversary of the Bhopal gas disaster approaches next Wednesday, December 2nd, a number of events have been organised by survivor groups in Bhopal to pay respects to those have died during those long years. The following list of events have been organised by the Sambhavna and Chingari clinics and will take place between the 1st and 3rd of December, 2020:

Location: Bal Uhdyan Garden, adjacent to Union Carbide Factory
Time: 1st, 2nd and 3rd December, 11am – 6pm
Exhibition on ‘havoc caused by the coronavirus pandemic and ways to avoid it’. In this exhibition they will highlight the special risk of coronavirus on gas survivors, the work done by Sambhavna Trust in the last 9 months in 15 communities to shield survivors, and the outcomes of that work.

Location: Memorial Mother & Child statue in front of Union Carbide Factory
Time: 2nd December, 6pm
Tribute to all the martyrs of the Bhopal gas tragedy. This year special tribute will be paid to the more than 200 gas survivors who have lost their lives from Covid-19.
Organiser: Chingari Trust
Location: Bal Uhdyan Garden, adjacent to Union Carbide Factory
Time: 1st, 2nd and 3rd December, 11am – 6pm
Photo exhibition documenting the stories of congenitally disabled children born into families affected by the Bhopal gas tragedy and the work done by the staff at Chingari during the coronvirus pandemic.

Location: Neelam Park, Jehangirabad Bhopal
Time: 1st December, 6pm
Paying of respects to the martyrs of the Bhopal gas tragedy by children and families registered at the Chingari clinic, together with staff and well-wishers.

Location: Overbridge near Union Carbide factory
Time: 2nd December, 6pm
Torch-lit vigil to pay respects to the martyrs of the Bhopal gas tragedy.

Forming of a human chain and taking of an oath to continue to fight for a life of honour, dignity and justice for Bhopal gas survivors.
All participants in these anniversary events will be asked to wear masks and observe social distancing and other guidelines where appropriate to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Wherever you are in the world, we ask you to also take a moment this December 2nd to pay respect to all those who have died in Bhopal these past 36 years and show solidarity with the survivors who continue the struggle for justice.
