Here at The BMA office we can hardly believe that we are only three and a half months away from the 36th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Disaster. The world has changed so much since we held events for the 35th anniversary. Each and every one of us has been affected in some way by the Covid-19 pandemic, for the gas-affected communities in Bhopal they now face a fresh crisis.
Our clinics are doing incredibly innovative work to stem the spread of Covid-19 in thirty-five communities in Bhopal, in addition to providing continuous medical support to those suffering with conditions caused by the gas disaster and subsequent water contamination.
This is why we are putting a call out to our supporters who would like to put on an event for Bhopal over the anniversary period. We are supported entirely by voluntary donations and what better way to mark the 36th anniversary than to bring together a community of fundraisers to keep the incredible work in Bhopal going and raise awareness of the ongoing disaster. Will you join us on the 2nd/3rd December?
Planning your fundraiser
Over the years our supporters have come up with some brilliant ways to raise money for the BMA, including, running marathons, beard and head shaving, film and curry nights, sponsored walks and jumping out of planes! They have taken up solo challenges and team events with friends, work colleagues or school groups. There are so many different ways you can fundraise for The BMA, you can learn more and find some inspiration on our fundraising page: https://www.bhopal.org/fundraising-for-the-bma/
Please do let us know if you would like to organise a fundraising event for the 36th anniversary of the Bhopal Gas Disaster. We can help you organise, plan and publicise your fundraiser. We can send you materials and share your event details and/or fundraising page on our website and social media to help you raise money. Even if you don’t know what you can do to fundraise, but want to take on the challenge, we can work with you to find the right event.
Due to current restrictions this year we may need to think a little more creatively. Large challenge events have been cancelled and many fundraisers have had to turn virtual. But we hope this won’t put you off! There are lots of virtual and solo/small group fundraising options that can be carried out in line with current government guidelines. Do contact us if you are unsure of how to run a virtual event, we will be able to help you set this up.
