Is the forthcoming Curative Petition the last chance for the survivors of the Bhopal Disaster to get adequate and fair compensation? The International Campaign for justice in Bhopal (ICJB) certainly thinks so and has launched a campaign asking for online help.
ICJB is calling for the correct figures for deaths, injury and ensuing chronic illness to be used in the curative petition. The Indian Government is currently using erroneous figures which would equate to a compensation payment of approximately $1billion dollars on top of the previous $470million payment. But the government’s own Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has published figures which would require a much higher pay out in excess of $8billion.
