BMA Schools Project & Brighton Color Run 2017

Pupils at Elm Grove Primary playing ‘Holi’ as a warm-up to the ‘Color Run’.

Saturday 23rd September saw a group of 50, mostly children, taking part in this year’s Brighton Color Run on behalf of our appeal. The Color Run is a 5km fun run, along the seafront in Brighton, where the emphasis is totally on the fun. With pumping music, smiles all round and free ice cream, it looked like an event not to miss; and that was just the warm up area! The course itself was littered with ‘colour points’ where runners cover each other with coloured powders while a new innovation for this year saw the inclusion of a ‘foam checkpoint’- all resulting in some very messy runners!

The participants came to us through our new Schools’ Project which we’ve managed to run in two schools in Brighton during its first year. The project aims to raise awareness of the Bhopal issue in a young audience using a good fun, educational and cultural programme. The programme culminates in the fund-raising Color Run where, this year, the participants were raising money to repair the audiometry room at the Chingari Trust Rehabilitation Centre as well as purchasing much-needed digital hearing aids for children being treated there.

Our Schools’ Project is comprised of: an introductory talk from BMA Managing Trustee Tim Edwards, a food tasting day with Bhopal disaster survivor Farah Edwards, a yoga session, an exchange of murals and, finally, a Holi Day Celebration where the kids get a chance to run around throwing powder paint at each other! After the excitement of the Holi Day event the students, and parents, are encouraged to sign up for the Color Run which takes place after they’ve returned from their summer break.

We are hoping to take this project to other schools, not only in Brighton but in other parts of the UK, so if you fancy having our school project come to yours or your child’s school please get in touch with us here: Schools project/ Color Run enquiry
