April 5th saw the culmination of several weeks of projects and workshops hosted by the Bhopal Medical Appeal at St. Luke’s School in Brighton. The course, running over 6 weeks, included an introductory talk to the students followed by a yoga workshop and an Indian food tasting day, all culminating in a riotous recreation of Holi, the Hindu celebration of Spring.
The events were a massive hit, with teachers and students alike, and St. Luke’s have already asked us back for next year. We’re also hoping to roll out this programme to other schools, in Brighton and elsewhere, so do please get in touch if you’d like to see it happen at your child’s school: CLICK
The main aim of the course is for the students to learn a little about Indian culture, and the work of the Bhopal Medical Appeal, and ultimately to raise funds to support our work. In this case, the money raised will be used to repair our audiometry room and buy 13 pairs of digital hearing aids- desperately needed by the children at the Chingari Trust Rehabilitation Centre.
To raise the money, the children of St Luke’s and their parents will be participating in the ‘Color Run’ this September. The Color Run is described as, “the most fun 5k on the planet!” and with music blaring and powder paint flying around it’s not hard to see why! The event is open to all ages and fitness levels and there’s no competitive element at all so if you are new to running, or just want to take part in an amazing event, then let us know!
Our thanks go to Louisa Light, of Tiger Yoga, for supplying the yoga workshops CLICK; and to Farah Edwards, a survivor of the Bhopal Disaster, for giving the kids a taste of delicious Bhopali cuisine.
