Today, on Christmas Eve, the children of Chingari had their own celebration. It began with a short speech from one of Chingari’s community health workers, Shankar, who carefully explained the meaning of Christmas to the excited children. Then Vidya, another community health worker, arrived in a full Santa Claus costume, handing out chocolate and dancing along to Christmas songs with the excited bunch. After the dancing, every child had a simple meal and then a special cake, made for the day’s celebration, was shared around a bunch of, no doubt, very happy kids.
