The Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon, Sunday 30th April 2017
The Vitality Run Hackney Half Marathon is a flat, fast course that runs through the heart of east London showing off the very best of the borough’s beautiful green spaces. Starting and finishing at Hackney Marshes, the closed-roads course takes a circuit around the iconic Olympic Park before passing by some of Hackney’s best kept parks and key landmarks.
This is a race for runners of all ages and abilities: from elite international athletes to first-time runners. So whether you’re looking for a goal to help you get fit along with a challenge to raise money for charity, or whether you’d like to make a PB on the fast course, then its the perfect race.

The London 10K, Sunday 9th July, 2017
This is far and away our most popular event and it’s not hard to guess why. The route takes in some of the most beautiful parts of London including Parliament House and Big Ben. Each year after the race we have a curry and beer picnic, in Hyde Park, which has become quite a tradition with our runners and makes for a great day out. Minimum sponsorship for this event is £250.

We don’t currently hold any places for the London Marathon 2017 but if you secure a place of your own for that, any other event, we’d be delighted to still welcome you on board as a Bhopal Runner and Bhopal Medical Appeal fundraiser. We’ll offer you all of the support we are able- even if it’s not in the UK. Paris… New York… North Pole?!
Brighton Marathon, Sunday 15th April 2018
Do you have what it takes to run the Brighton Marathon? If you think so then we’d love to hear from you! We have places for what is fast becoming an extremely popular race with over 15,000 runners and a crowd of around 150,000 people cheering the race on. Find an event you’d like to do and for which you think people will sponsor you. Let people know why you’re doing it and why you have chosen us, the Bhopal Medical Appeal, to benefit from your effort; spread the word, hold fundraisers, and include others.
You don’t just have to run for Bhopal. People have walked, cycled, swum, trekked, parachuted, kayaked and hula-hooped for us. There are so many inspiring, imaginative and fun ways to challenge yourself and get friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you.

Take Agnes Riley as a shining example of a committed, proactive fundraiser. Every year the Dumfries Choral Society holds a special Christmas fundraiser and Agnes, a long-term BMA supporter and patron of the society, suggested they choose us as their 2013 appeal. But, earlier in 2013, a very spritely Agnes had already walked 30 miles coast to coast across the Lake District, in aid of the Bhopal Medical Appeal, raising over £1200 pounds. More power to your elbow Agnes!
In Agnes’s own words:
“The 30 mile walk over 4 days took place between 30 May to 2 June, starting at the coast at Crosscanonby and walking along the Allerdale Ramble into the Lake District and finishing in Borrowdale. It was difficult at times, with challenges along the way – stiles and gates to be climbed! – but I was rewarded with interesting discussions about Bhopal at every opportunity with lovely people I met along the way. I couldn’t have done it without the support of family, the support of Bhopal Medical Appeal staff, and the donations and messages of support received from so many people. I covered all the costs associated with the walk, so all money raised will go to the Bhopal Medical Appeal.”
Whatever you choose to do, if you are taking part on your own, or organising a team challenge with colleagues, friends and family, please contact us. We would love to hear about what you plan to do and can offer fundraising help and advice, materials and further information, and publicise what you’re up to on our website and through our social media.
One simple way to look after your sponsorships is to set up an online fundraising page. These will allow your sponsors to pay directly to your page, using their bank card, with the system taking care of the rest and sending the money directly to us. These online systems always include a few useful tools and features to help you let everyone know what you’re up to. They are very simple to set up and use but we are always very happy to help if you are too busy or find it at all daunting.
The two most popular ones are JustGiving or Virgin Money Giving.
There are so many things you can do to fundraise for those in Bhopal and help our clinics have a real positive impact on the health of the disaster survivors. You don’t have to do something active like running or hula-hooping! For other fundraising ideas visit our main fundraising page.
