Launch of Flame of Bhopal Rose

Our Flame of Bhopal rose

Over the past four years, we have been involved in the cultivation of a unique red rose, named ‘Flame of Bhopal’, and are now pleased to announce its launch.  The Flame of Bhopal will be available to all our friends and supporters and ready for an Autumn planting.

Our rose commemorates the thousands harmed in the 1984 gas disaster, while its name evokes the resilient spirit of the survivors whose struggle for justice features many prominent and powerful women.

The Chingari Trust is an all women’s trust and their rallying cry, which inspired the name of the trust and, now, the name of our rose, crystallises their determination and courage;

“Hum Bhopal ke nari hain,

Hum phool nahin, chingari hain.’

(We are the women of Bhopal.

We are flames, not flowers.)

We hope the Flame of Bhopal rose bush will provide a lasting tribute to the people of Bhopal in gardens all over the UK and Europe and invite supporters to treat themselves, or their friends and family, to their own special rose. We are delighted to confirm that, after a long period of development, these lovely rose bushes will be on sale for autumn planting. To order your rose please contact Bill LeGrice Roses: telephone 01603 784466 or email: CLICK Each plant is priced at £10.95 plus packing and delivery. We will receive a donation for every plant sold.

Flame of Bhopal (Horyours) The rose has long symbolised a representation of love. Of all the medicines we use to treat the sick, the most powerful is love. We commemorate all who died or suffered following the toxic gas leak in Bhopal on December 2nd/3rd 1984.  We continue to remember those whose lives remain affected by chronic illness and the children born with physical and mental disabilities The Bhopal Medical Appeal strives for Health, Justice and a life of Dignity for gas-affected families in Bhopal.

We believe Dow & DuPont must finally accept responsibility for Bhopal. Until then, The Bhopal Medical Appeal funds two award-winning clinics in the city. Both offer free, first-class care to victims of the gas disaster or the ongoing water contamination. The survivors have nowhere else left to turn – please help if you can.
